This Committee acts in an advisory capacity to the Social Work Services manager at RGH and considers the social and psychological needs of patients. The Committee has operated since 1918. Funds under the jurisdiction of the Rochester General Hospital Association provide special appliances, transportation, medication and other needs which cannot be secured in any other way for patients who are referred to the Department of Social Work Services for financial problems. Funds are also set aside to stock “Pat’s Closet” with clothing and shoes for those with immediate needs.
The Committee organizes the Annual Holiday Project where money is collected from members of the Rochester General Hospital Association and Twigs to purchase gifts for the less fortunate at RRH affiliated facilities. Basic necessities are provided to disadvantaged families served by RGH. Holiday hams are delivered to the House of Mercy to help feed the homeless.
The Committee helps organize, fund and host the annual Ella Hollister Award Ceremony. Ella Hollister was the first social worker employed by RGH’s predecessor, Rochester City Hospital. The award is designed to honor the long-standing tradition of medical social work at RGH.
